NEW ORLEANS – The Iowa State women's cross country team jumped 20 spots to crack the top-10 at No. 8 in this week's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll. The Cyclones are coming off an outstanding performance at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational, finishing fifth at the elite event.
The Cyclone showing was highlighted by victories over 12 nationally ranked programs, including then No. 4 Washington, No. 7 New Mexico and No. 10 San Francisco. Iowa State is currently the only program from the Big 12 ranked in the nation's top-30.
The 20-place jump was the largest in the field, followed by Butler's 13-place move.
Crystal Nelson led the way for the Cyclones at Wisconsin, placing tenth in 20:02. Freshmen Perez Rotich and Bethanie Brown also ran to top-35 finishes, placing 28th and 32nd respectively. The Cyclones were one of just four teams to finish four runners in the top-60 and place one runner in the top-10.
