With the Cyclones trailing, 3-1, in the second contest of the day, Erica Miller got the Cyclones on base in the final frame with a leadoff single before Torrescano teed off on the first pitch she saw from reliever Whitney Canion (15-4), sending the ball into the parking lot beyond the left field wall for the tie score.

Although Iowa State had at least one baserunner in each of the first four frames, the Cyclones did not convert runners into runs until the fifth when Jorden Spendlove lifted a single over the Baylor first baseman's head with two outs, scoring Gomez, who walked to lead off the inning. In the end, Iowa State would put runners on base each of the game's first nine innings.
