AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team travels to Waterloo, Iowa Friday to take on the Northern Iowa Panthers for a 7 p.m. start at the Cedar Valley Youth Soccer Complex.
Last time out
The Cyclones (4-4-0) dropped their last two games, against top-25 opponent Stanford and Santa Clara. Iowa State was tied 1-1 with the No. 3 ranked Cardinal in the second period, but was unable to close out the final minutes of the game falling 3-1. Iowa State fell to Santa Clara 5-1.
Scouting the Panthers
Northern Iowa (1-7-0) is led by sophomore Brady Clark. Clark has one goal on the season, but recorded double the shots of anyone else on the Panther roster. Northern Iowa is a young team with four of their top five shot takers being sophomores. Iowa State faced a similar schedule as a the Panthers. The Cyclones defeated Western Illinois and South Dakota State, two teams that topped UNI so far this season. Iowa State leads the all-time series against the Panthers 8-0.
What to watch for
The key matchup in this game will be how the Cyclone offense attacks the UNI defense. Northern Iowa's senior goalkeeper Nicole Postel has registered 43 saves for the Panthers this season. Iowa State is led on offense by Jennifer Dominguez, who has registered four goals this season. The Cyclone playmaker ranks third all-time in the Iowa State record book in career points scored with 55. Dominguez is eight points from second all-time in the Cyclone record book trailing Lindsey Rector who recorded 63 points during her career.
