AMES, Iowa-The Iowa State soccer team (6-6) will host its first home conference games of the season this weekend, facing Texas (6-4-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. CT and Oklahoma (6-3-2) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Cyclones' game on Friday will be Rush Soccer Club Night. The first 100 fans to enter the gates will receive a free T-shirt. Friday's match will also be Fan Fest (weather permitting). Iowa State's match on Sunday will be the annual 'Think Pink' game. Fans are encouraged to wear their favorite pink apparel in honor of breast cancer awareness. Iowa State soccer players will be signing autographs after the contest (weather permitting).
Last Time Out
The Cyclones dropped their conference opener against Oklahoma State last Friday night in Stillwater, Okla. Iowa State was without two of its defensive starters, and nearly came away victorious on the road. The Cyclones rounded out the weekend with a 2-0 loss at Baylor.
Scouting the Longhorns
Texas earned their first victory of the Big 12 season defeating No. 6 Texas Tech at home 1-0 in overtime. A golden goal from freshman Olivia Brook seven minutes into the first overtime period proved to be the difference in the Longhorn victory. Texas dropped its latter game of the weekend, falling 2-0 to No. 17 West Virginia. The Longhorns are led by Brook, who already has five goals and two assists on the season.
What to Watch For
Iowa State will look to bounce back in the conference standings after dropping its first two Big 12 games. Both teams are coming off losses and are looking to gain some momentum for the rest of the conference slate. The Cyclones are 3-1 at home this season. Texas owns a 18-2-1 record all-time against Iowa State.
Scouting the Sooners
Oklahoma (6-3-2) has spent the early part of the season in and out of the top-25 rankings earning a spot as high as No. 15 in the Week-3 poll and has received votes in this week's poll. The Sooners have a well-rounded scoring offense. 10 different players have scored with no one player having scored more than three goals this season. The Sooners' game in Ames on Sunday will be the squad's second Big 12 match of the season.
What to Watch For
Iowa State and Oklahoma differ in the fact that the Sooners rely on different scoring options where the Cyclones have a go to goal scorer. Iowa State will look to the Big 12-leading goal scorer Koree Willer to lead the Cyclones to victory. Iowa State leads the all-time series 9-7-2.
