Cyclones Travel to Kansas, Texas Tech

AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team will face a pair of top-20 teams this weekend when they travel to No. 15 Kansas on Friday at 7 p.m. and No. 19 Texas Tech on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out
The Cyclones were defeated by No. 16 West Virginia 3-0 last Friday at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Iowa State did not have a game on Sunday.

Scouting the Jayhawks
No. 15 Kansas (14-3, 4-2) is coming off of a two-game losing streak where they fell to top-25 opponents Texas Tech and West Virginia. The Jayhawks are led by junior Liana Salazar, who is currently second in the Big 12 with nine goals scored. As a team, Kansas is second in the Big 12 with 31 goals scored this season. The Jayhawks like to spread the wealth on offense, as 11 different players have scored so far this season.

What to Watch For
Iowa State will look to slow down the Jayhawk attack. Kansas is 11-0 when they score two or more goals in the game, but are 3-3 when held to one goal or less. The key to an Iowa State victory is not allowing the Jayhawks to get two or more goals.

Scouting the Red Raiders
No. 19 Texas Tech (12-3-1, 2-1-1) enters the weekend riding a two-game winning streak after victories over Kansas and TCU. The Red Raiders will face Baylor on Friday night before Sunday's match. Texas Tech is led by All-American forward Janine Beckie, who currently leads the Big 12 with 10 goals. The Red Raiders are a strong defensive team and they have allowed just 13 goals all season.

What to Watch For
Iowa State will look to attack a solid Red Raider defense. Texas Tech is coming off back to back shutouts against Big 12 competition and the Cyclones will try to break that streak. Texas Tech is also a strong offensive team. The Red Raiders are currently third in the Big 12 in goals and points. Iowa State will look to senior goalkeeper Andrea Swanson to stop Texas Tech's potent offensive attack.
