DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The Iowa State tennis team(6-2, 0-0 Big 12) defeated Bethune-Cookman(2-6, 0-0 MEAC), 5-1, Sunday afternoon.
Freshman Samantha Budai defeated Elizabeth Nyenwe, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2 singles. Junior Meghan Cassens took down Maria Sablina at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-3. At No. 4 singles, freshman Lydia Green defeated Valentina Beresiarte, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Emma Waites took down Gaby Chinchilla at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 7-6. Junior Caroline Andersen defeated Maria Dimitrova, 6-0, 6-3.
Junior Ksenia Pronina was defeated by Mina Matsuba at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-1, 6-3.
Due to time constraints, doubles competition was not played.
The Cyclones will return to action Friday, Feb. 21, taking on the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
