Editor's Note: DeAndre Kane is a senior on the Iowa State men's basketball team working toward earning his Master's Degree in Higher Education. As part of his Higher Ed 591 course, Kane will be doing a weekly blog to give fans an inside look at his life as a student-athlete. The course is of the field experience variety and he'll be focusing on the role of media communications in higher education and athletics.
Since returning from the Big 12 Tournament I've been asked a lot of questions about the experience. I wanted to share some of the most frequent questions.
What Did the Big 12 Tournament Mean To Me?
The Big 12 Tournament meant a lot to me. Just to be able to experience something like that was special. Coming from the Conference USA Tournament was a big difference and I couldn't be happier to be a part of something so special.
How exciting was it to win your first conference tournament championship?
To win my first championship in Division I basketball was a true blessing. When the time expired the feeling that was going through my body was unexplainable. I was so happy to finally see how it felt to cut down the nets.
Were you you surprised by the fans that made the trip down to KC?
I was not surprised that the fans made the trip. I think we have the best fans in the world. That's why we wanted to bring home the trophy because we knew it meant so much to the fans and they deserve it.
How did it feel to win the Most Valuable Player?
To win the MVP was a honor but I think the whole team was MVPs. The way each player played the whole tournament I wish there was trophies for each player because they all deserved it.
Until next time, Go Cyclones!
