AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's soccer team has had sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Hendon in frame all season. Along with Ellie Cavanaugh, Katie Culhane is another freshman goalkeeper who pushes Hendon to be her best every day.
A local product, Katie Culhane was a four-year starter in goal for Ames High where she recorded over 500 saves before coming to Iowa State. Culhane hasn't had her moment on the field for the Cyclones yet, but she does a lot out of the spotlight, at practice, to help Hendon and the rest of the team improve as well as developing her game.
What made you choose to come to Iowa State?
I have lived in Ames for 10 years. My parents are both alumni so I have grown up a really big Cyclone fan. I really like the campus and I love the atmosphere. I think it is a great place to live. I love the coaches. I love the team.
What are you looking forward to the most this freshman year on the field or off the field?
I'm excited to have the opportunity to get better and help the team in any way that I can. Just excited to see what it's like.
Do you play any sports or have any other hobbies?
I mostly just played soccer in high school. I played basketball for a couple years but then I just wanted to focus on soccer.
Favorite soccer team?
I really enjoyed watching the United States Women's National Team play. I liked watching them win the World Cup.
What do you bring to the team?
I bring a competitive spirit and will offer any help for the team that I can.
Do you have a favorite soccer memory?
My favorite soccer memory would be winning the State Cup two years ago with my club team. Ellie (Cavanaugh) and Jordan (Enga) were both on that team too.
What's going to be your most difficult adjustment coming to Iowa State?
I will probably still get a little homesick. It will still be an adjustment moving out.
Cyclones.com will be introducing the final freshman newcomer next week before they close out the season when they host Texas Tech on Friday, October 30th at 7 p.m.
