AMES, Iowa-The Iowa State soccer team (5-8, 0-4 Big 12) will travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the Texas Longhorns (4-3-4, 1-1-1 Big 12) on Friday night at 7 p.m. The game will air on the Longhorn Network.
Last Time Out
The Cyclones dropped a pair of conference games at home last weekend. On Friday, Iowa State battled Baylor for the full 90 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net and fell, 1-0. The Kansas Jayhawks topped the Cyclones on Sunday.
Scouting the Longhorns
Texas puts the game in the hands of their defense. The Longhorns are at the bottom of the conference in goals with just eight, but they rank third in goals allowed (10). Texas has faced a tough schedule with four opponents in the top-25 and two of those four teams in the top-5 (No. 5 North Carolina and No. 4 West Virginia). Senior goalkeeper Abby Smith is the key to Texas' success. Smith leads the league in saves with 67.
What to Watch For
This is a crucial game for the Cyclones. Both teams have had low offensive production this season so it will come down to whoever can tally a goal. Watch for Iowa State to shake things up to find a group that gets some rhythm and can play well together. Sophomore Maribell Morales has upped her game lately, but just hasn't snuck in a goal on a few good chances. Look for Morales to put one away.
