AMES, Iowa – No. 11 Iowa State (17-5, 7-3 Big 12) raced out to a 21-point first-half lead and never looked back in its 75-38 victory over Texas Tech (12-12, 2-9 Big 12) Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.
Jameel McKay was outstanding in the win, recording a career-high 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks in his first career start. McKay didn't miss a field goal attempt, connecting on all seven shots to help the Cyclones shoot 56.0 from the field.
Naz Long drilled three treys en route to 15 points and Monte' Morris had four points, six assists and four steals.
The 37-point win was the third-largest margin of victory over a conference opponent in school history and marked the 20th-straight victory in Hilton Coliseum, the fifth-best homecourt winning streak in school history.
How it happened…
It didn't take long for the Cyclones to take control of the game. ISU's largest lead of the first half was at 21 points (29-8) with 2:53 remaining. The Red Raiders were shooting below 25 percent from the floor to help the Cyclones take the early lead.
Toddrick Gotcher hit three-straight 3-pointers in the final three minutes to help TTU inch a little closer, as ISU held a 35-17 lead at the break. Long had 10 points at the break to pace the Cyclones.
McKay then took over in the second half to put the game out of reach. Iowa State stretched its lead to 30 points (59-29) when Matt Thomas buried a trey at the 10:58 mark of the second half.

Jameel McKay. The Cyclone big man earned his first career start and ran with it. McKay put up a monster line, recording a career-high 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. McKay was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, becoming just the ninth Cyclone in school history shoot 100 percent from the floor with seven or more attempts.
