QUEENS, New York- The Iowa State tennis team (5-8, 1-1 Big 12) fell, 4-1, to St. John's on Monday in New York. The teams played only singles matches, leaving the No. 1 match between sophomore Samantha Budai and Anastasia Polyakova unfinished.
Iowa State's only team point came from junior Alejandra Galvis. The Cucuta, Colombia, native played her second three-set match in a row against Zofia Stanisz, taking the win with a score of 6-0, 6-7, 6-1. The win marked four in a row for Galvis, who transferred to Iowa State this year from Lindsey Wilson College.
Senior Caroline Andersen also played to three sets on Monday, winning the second set after being down one. She fell to Jaide Collins, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
The match was the first of three this week for the Cyclones, who will take on Quinnipiac on Tuesday in Hamden, Connecticut, and Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, later on in the week.
