SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Iowa State women's golf team, ranked 37th nationally, finished fourth at the Big 12 Championships, firing rounds of 290-300-291 for a three-round 881 total.
Baylor was crowned the champion at 867, 12 shots better than runner-up TCU at 879, as the Cyclones fell just two strokes shy from finishing runner-up. It marked the sixth season in a row where the Cyclones finished fourth or better at the Big 12 Championship.
The Cyclones were solid in the final round this afternoon, posting scores of 72 (Chonlada Chayanun), 72, Celia Barquin, 73 (Nattapan Siritrai) and 74 (Cajsa Persson) to help ISU record the second-lowest score of the final round at 291.
Chayanun, Siritrai and Persson led the Cyclones by tying for 10th at 220 to earn all-tournament honors. Barquin was just one shot back at 221 to tie for 17th.
Chayanun and Persson recorded their second all-tournament (top-10) performance at the Big 12 Championship in their respective careers. Chayanun tied for fourth in 2014 and Persson tied for fifth in 2013. Chayanun has finished in the top-10 in four of her last five tournaments.
Iowa State is a lock to make its sixth-straight NCAA Regional berth. The NCAA Regional selection show is tomorrow night and the Cyclones will find out which one of the four regionals they will compete in, May 7-9.
The top-six teams in each of the four regions will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 22-27 in Bradenton, Fla. ISU qualified for its first-ever NCAA Championship a year ago.
