AMES, Iowa – Two former Iowa State student-athletes, running back Jared Weaver and soccer player Alyssa Williamson, are recipients of Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarships, the Big 12 announced earlier this week.
The scholarships are awarded annually in honor of the late Dr. Prentice Gautt, a former Big 12 Conference staff member and student services' pioneer who passed away in March 2005.
To qualify for the award, student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale, participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics at the nominee's respective institution and completion of athletics' eligibility. The student-athletes also must graduate from their respective member institutions and enroll in graduate or professional school of choice within 15 months following their selection at the spring meeting of the Faculty Athletics Representatives.
Weaver, an aerospace engineering major, earned First Team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2014. Additionally, Weaver was named to the All-Cyclone team in 2014 for achieving the highest grade point average on the team, honored for receiving a 4.0 in 2013 and won the Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award in 2015. Weaver played in eight games during his senior season.
Williamson, a kinesiology and pre-physical therapy major, is a three-time academic all-Big 12 recipient. In her senior season, Williamson played in 15 games and scored five goals, including the game-winner vs. Iowa.
