Cyclones Win 3-0 Over the Coyotes

Vermillion, S.D. - The Iowa State soccer team closed out a road trip to South Dakota with a 3-0 win over the University of South Dakota Sunday in Vermillion, S.D.

Turning Point of the Game
In the 33rd minute, junior Koree Willer beat the South Dakota defender and centered a perfect pass to the feet of fellow junior Lauren Roeling. Roeling struck the ball and sent it straight into the bottom left corner of the net to beat Coyote goalkeeper Parker Rytz. Iowa State really turned on the attack in the second half when both seniors Lindsay Frank and Haley Albert were able to score.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to...
Lindsay Frank. The redshirt senior midfielder, who has battled through injury throughout her career as a Cyclone, scored her first collegiate goal. Maribell Morales sent a corner kick right in front of the net. Frank fought through the congestion and was able to get her foot on the loose ball and snuck it just across the line. Frank also led the team in shots with three and was a leader in the midfield.

"I think we started off strong this game,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “Klasey Medelberg gave us a lot of energy to start the game off and I felt good about the first 15 minutes. We hit a bit of a lull, but were able to get a really nice goal with Koree Willer assisting to Lauren Roeling. In the second half, we started off strong again. We came right at them. We got some corner kicks and really put them under a lot of pressure. Once we got the third goal, we had an opportunity there to put in some of our younger players and get them some experience before heading to California.”

* Sophomore goalkeeper Lindsey Hendon recorded another shutout. Her second of her career.
* Junior Lauren Roeling scored her first goal of the season and the second of her career.
