HAMPTON, Va. – The No. 18 Iowa State wrestling team (5-2, 1-0 Big 12) will wrestle Virginia Tech at 7:15 p.m. CT on Saturday night in the Virginia Duals finals. The Cyclones defeated Chattanooga 22-13 in the semifinals.
Six Cyclones won their matches en route to the 22-13 victory. Two ISU grapplers won their bouts by bonus-point margin in Earl Hall (major-decision) and Tanner Weatherman (fall.)
Iowa State vs. Chattanooga
Kyle Larson and Hall put the Cyclones out to a 7-0 lead early in the dual. Larson garnered 3:44 of riding-time in his 10-4 decision over Alonzo Allen. Hall followed this match by not surrendering a takedown against Cody Hill. The Homestead, Fla. native won this match by 16-4 major-decision.
Gabe Moreno and Weatherman were the next two Cyclones to pick up victories against Chattanooga. Moreno defeated Chase Zemenak by 5-2 decision. Weatherman picked up six team points for the Cyclones with a cradle and a fall in 6:36 over Dominic Lampe.
Dane Pestano and Marcus Harrington finished off the Mocs in tightly contested battles. Pestano dominated in the top position in the third period to defeate McCoy Newberg by 6-3 decision. Harrington secured the win for Iowa State with a takedown in SV-1, defeating Scottie Boykin by 5-3 decision.
