Closed out his Iowa State career with a 23-13 mark while posting a 7-6 dual record… finished his Cyclone tenure with an overall record of 93-44 and 33-19 in dual competition… finished as a two-time Big 12 Champion and All American as a Cyclone… earned his fourth trip to the NCAA Championship… took fourth place at the 2017 Big 12 Championship… earned a runner-up finish at the Midlands Championships… avenged a loss at the Midlands Championships suffered earlier in the season to Alex Meyer, defeating the Hawkeye by 9-7 decision to reach the finals… took fourth place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational… won the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open with a fall in 2:27 over Jadaen Bernstein of Navy in the finals… closed out the season with three pins, two technical falls and two major decisions.
2015-16
Finished the season 27-13… tallied a 10-6 dual record… earned a sixth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championship to earn All-America honors as an unseeded wrestler… all three wins in New York City were over seeded opponents… defeated Cody Walters of Ohio by 5-3 decision to reach the semifinals and clinch an All-America finish… was the only unseeded wrestler to earn a spot in the semifinals at the NCAA Championship… became the first Cyclone since John Thorn in 1983 to reach the semifinals as an unseeded wrestler… knocked off No. 2 Brian Realbuto by 7-4 decision to ignite his run to the podium… qualified for the NCAA Championship by winning the 174-pound Big 12 Championship… Weatherspoon became the 56th grappler in school history to win two or more conference titles… defeated No. 1 Chandler Rogers in the finals by 8-5 decision… led the team in major-decision wins with eight on the year… knocked off then-ranked No. 10 Mike Ottinger of Central Michigan by 8-3 decision to earn Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors… finished seventh-place at the Midlands Championships… pinned NIU’s Trayce Angeles in 0:18 to close out the tournament, which was the fastest fall of the tournament… won the Cyclone Open with a 5-0 record… was given the Iowa State wrestling Outstanding Wrestler Award.
2014-15
Qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second season in a row... posted an 18-7 record on the year, including a 10-3 dual mark... notched a 3-1 victory in tie-breaker one over Thomas Sleigh of Bucknell at the NCAA Championships... suffered a 2-1 loss at the Big 12 Championships to Oklahoma State's Nolan Boyd to finish runner-up... defeated Brooks Climmons of Oklahoma by 6-3 decision in the Big 12 semifinals... pinned Jakob Scheffl of West Virginia in the first period (2:52) during the ISU-WVU dual... grabbed a 16-4 major-decision victory over Konner Witt of Air Force in the opening round of the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational... put on a dominating performance at the Kaye Young Open en route to a 184-pound title... beat Ben Wallace of NIACC by 22-7 technical fall to advance to the finals where he would win by medical-forfeit... picked up another technical-fall when he dropped Wouvel Cevelon of Iowa Lakes, 17-2... opened the season with by pinning David Frazier of Lincoln College in 4:56.
2013-14
NCAA-qualifier at 184 pounds in first collegiate season… went 1-2 at first NCAA Championships with a 11-4 over Lock Haven’s Fred Garcia… became the first freshman Big 12 champion for the Cyclones since heavyweight David Zabriskie in 2007… knocked off No. 1 seed Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma State 4-3 in the title bout… trailed 3-2 late before scoring a bear hug takedown with 20 seconds left for the win and NCAA-bid… finished the season 25-11 overall and 6-4 in duals wrestling both at 174 and 184 pounds… took fifth-place at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational after going 5-2… dominated All-American Bryce Hammond of CSU-Bakersfield in the fifth-place bout, trouncing him 15-5 with over four minutes of riding time… took fifth again at the Southern Scuffle a few weeks later after going 6-2 with a pin… took third-place at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open… was undefeated until the semifinals, where he fell to three-time All-American Logan Storley of Minnesota 8-6 in tiebreaker period one… finished the season with three pins, three major decisions and a tech fall.Â
2012-13
Redshirted initial collegiate season… finished the season with a 13-5 record… started the year with nine-straight wins… Kaye Young Open champion… went 4-0 en route to first place, posting two pins, a decision and a major decision… went 5-0 at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open with three pins before falling to All-American teammate Michael Moreno in the championship match… went 2-2 at both the UNI Open and Grand View Open… FILA Junior Nationals champion, competing at 79 KG (174 pounds)… went 5-0 en route to the top of the podium and All-America honors… won 10 of the 11 periods he wrestled in Las Vegas… defeated Michigan State’s Jordan Wohlfert 3-0, 2-1 in the championship match.Â

Holds the record for most career wins at Napoleon High School as he compiled a career prep record of 195-15 … won back to back state titles his junior and senior seasons … named the 2012 Jackson Citizen Patriot Wrestler of the Year … as a junior went 52-0 en route to a state championship at 152 lbs … as a senior went 49-1 en route to a state championship at 160 lbs … went 50-5 as a sophomore finishing seventh in the state … coached by Carl Bunker.
