NORMAN, Okla. – No. 3 Iowa State earned a Big 12 road win over No. 21 Oklahoma, 29-10, Friday night inside McCasland Field House. The Cyclones (9-1, 5-0 Big 12) took seven of 10 bouts from the Sooners (8-4, 1-3 Big 12), including five by bonus-point margin.
ISU won the takedown battle, 24-5, as it won it's eighth-consecutive dual against the Sooners.
The Cyclones rattled off six-straight wins to open the dual, starting with No. 13 Stevo Poulin at 125 pounds. He picked up his fifth-consecutive win with a commanding 5-1 decision over No. 26 Conrad Hendriksen. The Cyclone used a sweep single for an early takedown in the opening period before running the riding time to over two minutes.
At 133 pounds, Adrian Meza earned his first dual win of the season with a thrilling 6-5 decision over Carter Schmidt. Meza reversed Schmidt in the third period to tie the score at 5-5 and rode out the Sooner for a decisive riding time point.
No. 3 Anthony Echemendia had no problem taking care of Tyson Charmoli at 141 pounds. Echemendia, now 13-1 on the season, tallied six takedowns to notch his sixth tech fall of the season with a 20-4 result.
No. 6 Jacob Frost controlled his match from start to finish at 149 pounds against Hunter Hollingsworth. Frost notched two takedowns and used a tilt for a four-point near fall in an 12-2 major decision.
At 157, Vinny Zerban used a late takedown and locked up a cradle for two near fall points as time expired for an 11-2 major decision over Layton Schneider. Zerban improved to 11-2 on the season with the win.
Iowa State led 19-0 at the intermission.
Out of the break, No. 16 Connor Euton used four takedowns and four near fall points to secure an 18-1 tech fall over No. 32 Peyten Kellar. It was Euton's sixth tech fall of the season and he is now 13-3 on the season.
Oklahoma earned decisions at 174, 184 and 197 pounds before Yonger Bastida posted his 10th tech fall of the season. Top-ranked Bastida took down Bradley Hill six times in a 19-4 victory and improved to 17-0 on the season.
