LOGAN, Utah – The Iowa State tennis team (5-1, 0-0 Big 12) started its weekend off strong with a 5-0 victory over the Idaho State Bengals (1-3, 0-0 Big Sky). The Cyclones plan heading into the weekend was to continue their success in doubles play by winning the point in each dual.
Their goal looked achievable from the beginning when the top pairing of Samantha Budai and Liza Buss kept their success together going. Buss and Budai defeated Wiebke Boeckmann and Nonie Alexandersen 6-3. Annabella Bonadonna and Alejandra Galvis followed that up by defeating their opponent 6-3 as well. Their victory over Laura Theus and Svenja Tegtmeier secured the doubles point which gave the Cyclones the early 1-0 lead.
The hot start carried over into singles play from the beginning and never stopped. Liza Buss earned the second point for the Cyclones by defeating Kasey Bacon 6-2, 6-0. Alejandra Galvis was the last Cyclone to finish in singles play and she clinched the victory for Iowa State with her 6-4, 6-2 win over Wiebke Boeckmann.
The Cyclones will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. against Utah State. Check back tomorrow for updated results and follow our twitter @CycloneTEN for the most up to date news as the weekend progresses.
