AMES, Iowa - Six Iowa State volleyball players are in Colorado Springs, Colorado at the U.S. Olympic Training Center with an eye on entering the U.S. Collegiate National Team, and USA Women's Volleyball National Team fold.
Iowa State will be represented by
Ciara Capezio,
Morgan Kuhrt,
Caitlin Nolan,
Abby Phillips,
Jess Schaben and
Samara West. Both Kuhrt and Nolan have been in the USA Volleyball system, with Kuhrt taking part in the U.S. Collegiate National Team's tour of China last summer, while Nolan was a member of the U.S. Junior National Team that competed at the U20 World Championship in 2013 in the Czech Republic.
The returning collegiate student-athletes will be competing for spots in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program that will once again do a tour of China from June 18-July 1, a tour of Europe from July 5-16 or the USA Volleygall Girls' Junior National Championships from June 21-30 in Indianapolis. The selections for the U.S. Collegiate National Teams will be made by the end of March.
As for Nolan, her aim will be a little higher, as she strives to get into the fold for the U.S. Women's National Team, the defending World Champions. With head coach karch Kiraly and his staff running the tryouts, Nolan will have a chance to impress the staff. The path Nolan will be looking to take is similar to the one Kristen Hahn took en route to becoming the first Cyclone to play for the National Team in May 2014. Nolan will be hoping for an invite to USA Volleyball's National Team training camp later in the spring.
