How it Happened
Iowa State raced out to an early 20-8 lead by connecting on 60 percent of its field goals in the first five minutes of the contest. Nader had 10 of ISU's first 20 points, going 3-of-4 from the field and 2-of-2 from downtown.
The Cyclones then went cold, allowing the Horned Frogs to get back into the game. TCU mounted an 11-0 run to cut the Cyclone lead to one point. Malique Trent soon made his fourth 3-pointer in the first 12 minutes of the game to knot the game at 24-24 at the 8:24 mark.
ISU ended the half on a 7-2 run to go into the break with a 44-36 lead. Nader had 16 first-half points to pace the Cyclones.
After the Cyclones spotted the Frogs the first two buckets of the second half, ISU rallied with a 15-2 run to move ahead 59-42 with 15:41 remaining in the game. Matt Thomas had six points on two treys and Burton had five points in the run.
TCU bounced back, however, with a 12-2 run to cut the Cyclone lead to 61-54 with 11:39 left in the game.
The Cyclone lead never dipped below seven points the rest of the way.
