AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team added eight players for the upcoming 2016 season, head coach Tony Minatta announced Wednesday. The Cyclones' class includes several different skilled athletes at every position that have already received numerous accolades.
Head coach Tony Minatta is looking forward to see what the 2016 class has to offer.
“I am really excited about this 2016 recruiting class,” Minatta said. “There is so much versatility and athleticism with this group. All of them played a high level and they are all state champions or champions at the club level within their leagues. They have all played either at the highest level ECNL or with ODP. It is just a group that really has bought into Iowa State and wants to represent the Cyclones. They want to help us continue to progress our program forward, to be representative of the athletic department and the way that we feel that soccer should be.”
The 2016 class is headlined by midfielder Hannah Cade. The Lakeville, Minn. product was recently named Miss Soccer Minnesota for 2015, which is the award given out to the best soccer player in the state of Minnesota. Cade has also received several other honors including NSCAA All-American. In her high school career, she has tallied 14 goals while dishing out 22 assists.
The Cyclones also added four in-state recruits. Midfielder Anna Frerichs and defender Carly Langhurst will come to Ames from Cedar Rapids where the duo led Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School to be the 2014 State Champions and also won the Iowa State Cup with their Cedar River Soccer Association club team in 2013 and 2015. Marin Daniel will also join the Cyclones and is a versatile player out of Johnston. Daniel has received numerous all-state and all-conference awards at Dowling Catholic High School. Lastly, Payton Pottratz joins Iowa State from Coralville. Her Iowa City West High School team won the 3A State Championship and Pottratz was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Iowa State-Colorado pipeline continues with the addition of Tegan Alexander. The forward is from Elizabeth, Colo.. The all-conference soccer performer also got fourth in the 100 meters in the 2014 Colorado State Meet. Alexander has 44 goals and 14 assists in just 23 high school games. At the club level, Alexander was named Colorado Storm 2014 Player of the Year and her team won the President's Cup in 2015.
Antonia Reyes adds more depth at the goalkeeper position. Out of Riverside, Calif., Reyes owns a 0.619 goals against per game with 10 shutouts through 21 games played. On the opposite side of the field, forward Merin Mundt looks to help with the Cyclones scoring. The Burlington, Wis. native has scored 65 goals for Burlington High School and her club team, Strike FC, are five-time state champions.

Coach Minatta is excited to see what the 2016 recruiting class can add to a team that is returning key players at nearly every position including First Team All-Big 12 forward Koree Willer. The Cyclones return 11 players who started a game in 2015 and also added three key transfers over the off-season.
