Cyclones Continue Their Success Against Buffalo

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn- The Iowa State tennis team (9-1, 0-0 Big 12) traveled up north this weekend to compete against two opponents at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota. The Cyclones first opportunity to continue their winning streak was against the Buffalo Bulls (6-3, 0-0 MAC). Iowa State defeated the Bulls 6-1 to move their winning streak to eight.

A lot of the Cyclones success this season can be attributed their strong doubles play. The team has made it a goal to come out strong from the start and win every doubles point on the season. They continued their strong play on Saturday when they clinched the doubles point with two quick wins. Alejandra Galvis and Annabella Bonadonna got the first doubles win against Laura Holterbosch and Christine Haraldson. Galvis and Bonadonna defeated the number two pairing 6-4. Regina Espindola and Anna Kuuttila were the other Cyclone pairing to win their match. The duo defeated Margarita Kotok and Chantel Martinez Blanco 7-5.

The Cyclones carried their strong play in doubles over to singles where they only lost one match. Liza Buss moved her winning streaks in singles play to 12 when she defeated Chantel Martinez Blanco 6-2, 6-2. Fellow freshman, Annabella Bonadonna, has also had a strong first campaign in Ames. Bonadonna defeated Sanjana Sudhir 6-3, 1-6, 6-5.

The Cyclones will look to move their winning streak to nine and go perfect on the weekend tomorrow when they face off against the Minnesota Gophers tomorrow at 11 a.m.
