Cyclones Fall to No. 17 Lady Raiders

AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (13-8, 2-6 Big 12) started the weekend off against the No. 17 Texas Tech Lady Raiders (20-4, 5-3 Big 12) on Friday at the Forker Tennis Courts, falling 4-0.

Entering the weekend, Annabella Bonadonna and Alejandra Galvis were 5-0 in Big 12 doubles play. Unfortunately, the duo's winning streak came to an end when they were defeated by Felicity Maltby and Sabrina Federici 6-4. Liza Buss and Samantha Budai were the solo Cyclones pairing to defeat a Lady Red Raider pairing in doubles play. They defeated the No. 90 ranked duo of Alex Valenstein and Gabriela Talaba, 6-3.

After losing the doubles point, the Cyclones were unable to get any momentum in singles play to turn the match around. Samantha Budai was forced to retire her match due to injury in the first set against No. 99 Sarah Dvorak. Both Dvorak and Gabriella Talaba of Texas Tech are ranked in the top 100 in singles.

The Cyclones will look to go even on the weekend when they face off against the Texas Christian Horned Frogs on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. The match against the Horned Frogs will be the final match of the regular season for the Cyclones.

Ana Gaparovic and Alejandra Galvis will both be honored on Senior Day. As of now, the match against the Horned Frogs will be played outside at the Forker Tennis Courts.
