STILLWATER, Okla. - The Iowa State softball team (15-20 0-4 Big 12) fell in game one of its series with Oklahoma State (18-17, 1-4 Big 12) by a score of 10-2. Senior Aly Cappaert hit her seventh home run of the season in the contest, a two-run shot in the top of the third inning.
Oklahoma State 10, Iowa State 2
Following a scoreless first frame, Oklahoma State got on the board first with a solo home run courtesy of Kristin Reasnor to lead off the bottom of the second inning.
Iowa State was able to answer back in the top of the third inning, as Cathlin Bingham found herself on first following a pair of fielder's choices. With two outs, senior Aly Cappaert stepped to the plate and launched a two-run home run to left center, giving the Cyclones a 2-1 advantage.
Unfortunately, the Iowa State momentum was marred in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of controversial officiating calls. It started after the Cowgirls had loaded the bases with no outs. ISU first baseman Kaylee Bosworth cleanly caught a line drive and stepped on first for a Cyclone double play. Unfortunately, the second out of the play was wiped off the board when the first base umpire ruled the ball had hit the ground.
Later in the inning, with OSU runners on second and third, a Cowgirl hit sailed well outside of third base, but was ruled fair, bringing two additional runs around. The Cyclones ended the inning on the next batter with yet another double play, and fortunately this one was not to be taken away.
Oklahoma State took hold of the game from that point forward, scoring two runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to win, 10-2.
