AMES, Iowa – Mike Green has been promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Communications, the Iowa State Athletics Department announced today.
Green has been a valuable member of the athletics department since joining the staff as a graduate student in 1995. Green was elevated to a full-time assistant role in 1997, spending the majority of his time as the men's basketball contact (2001-2013).
A native of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Green was named Director of Athletics Communications in 2013. Under Green's guidance, the communications staff was recognized by the Football Writers Association of America as a recipient of the Super 11 Award, given annually to the sports information departments and programs that exemplified excellent media relations. Green served as media coordinator for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament hosted by Iowa State in Des Moines.
Green also oversaw the implementation of Cyclone Sidebar, a communications blog that has had nearly 625,000 views in under three years. He also helped create CyCast, an athletics department podcast that was created this summer as an innovative way to bring Cyclone fans closer to the Iowa State personalities they follow.
"Mike has had an integral role in building a positive brand for Iowa State Athletics, especially in the last three years, as the director of our communications department," Senior Associate AD Steve Malchow said. "As a long-time Cyclone staffer, he has an incredible knowledge of our program's history and Iowa State fans are the beneficiary of his storytelling skills. It is gratifying to see a person like Mike recognized for his talents and efforts as he is most deserving of this promotion."
