Cyclones Fall To No. 16 Hawkeyes In Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa State fell to No. 16 Iowa, 42-3, Saturday evening in an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series contest at Kinnick Stadium. The Cyclones fall to 0-2, while Iowa improves to 2-0 this season.
The Cyclones trailed 28-3 at the half as Iowa's C.J. Beathard completed 11-of-14 passes for 153 yards, including five receptions by Matt VandeBerg. The Cyclones were outgained 266-166 in the opening stanza. ISU's lone points came on Cole Netten's 31-yard field goal late in the first quarter, his ninth-consecutive make after a promising drive stalled.
Iowa tacked on a pair of touchdowns in the second half on runs by Akrum Wadley and LeShun Daniels, while the Cyclones were kept off the board.
Keys of the Game
Iowa's offense controlled the game from the start as the Cyclones were unable to gain traction offensively. The Hawkeyes controlled the ball with a 435-291 edge in total offense. The Cyclone effort was hampered by 10 penalties for 73 yards.
Players of Note...
Allen Lazard was a bright spot for the Cyclones, pulling in seven receptions for 111 yards. For the season, Lazard has 17 catches for 240 yards. It was his second 100-yard receiving game in as many weeks.
Brian Peavy led the Cyclone defenders with seven tackles, while Jhaustin Thomas and Brian Mills recorded sacks for the Cyclones.

*Allen Lazard extended his school record to 25-consecutive games with a reception. He also recorded his fourth career 100-yard game.
*Cole Netten is now 4-for-4 on field goal attempts against Iowa in his career.
*Kene Nwangwu had 31 yards on seven rushing attempts as he made his first career carries.

Iowa State hits the road for a second-consecutive week when it travels to TCU next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. on FS1.
