AMES, Iowa – The No. 23 Iowa State men's cross country team starts their postseason campaign at the 2017 Big 12 Championships. The men's race will begin at 9 a.m. at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas.
The Cyclone men are looking to build off of their runner-up finish in 2016, hoping to capture their first Big 12 title since 1994.
Iowa State will look to newcomers like Festus Lagat and Stanley Langat, as well as returning stars in 2016 All-Big 12 performers Andrew Jordan and Thomas Pollard to push the team. Most recently, ISU took 16th place at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Individually, Andrew Jordan was the Cardinal and Gold's top performance, taking 24th place.

Cyclone Notebook
-The Iowa State cross country teams will head to Lubbock, Texas for the 2017 Big 12 Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28. The men's race will start at 9 a.m. CT, with the women's race at 10 a.m.
-Iowa State is currently one of 12 schools in the country to have its men's (No. 23) and women's (No. 23) cross country teams both ranked in the top 25 of the USTFCCCA Coaches' Poll.
-In the Midwest Region, the men currently hold the No. 3 ranking while the women are slated No. 2.
-On the men's side, Martin Smith will send out one of the best squads he has had at Iowa State. The Cyclones began the year ranked No. 12 nationally, which was the highest preseason ranking in school history.
-Most recently, the men finished 16th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Although it was an uncharacteristic race from the Cyclones, junior Andrew Jordan was the top Cyclone performer, finishing 24th individually.
-At the Hawkeye Invitational, the men swept the field. The Cyclones had six runners finish in the top-9 to secure a 6-0 record against the field in Iowa City.
-The No. 23 Iowa State women are looking to secure their sixth Big 12 title in seven trips to the conference championship. The Cyclones' string of four straight conference championships was snapped in 2015. It's the second longest streak in Big 12 history. (Colorado - 9).
-Freshman Cailie Logue has been outstanding for Andrea Grove-McDonough this season. Logue has been the top Cyclone finisher in all three events this season. She took first individually at the Hawkeye Invitational to begin the year, netting her Big 12 Runner of the Week Honors. She took fifth at the Roy Griak Invitational and 30th at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
-As a team, the women took 13th place at the Nuttycombe Invite. The Cyclones had four runners cross the finish line in the top-100 in Logue (30th), Anne Frisbie (36th), Amanda Vestri (89th) and Kelly Naumann (90th).
-The women climbed to No. 1 in the Midwest Regional poll after a runner-up finish at the Griak. Iowa State's three freshmen, Logue (5th), Amanda Vestri (18th) and Karly Ackley (40th) all posted top-40 performances. No other team in the field had more than one.
-ISU kicked off the season with a dominant performance at the Hawkeye Invitational. There, the Iowa State women toppled all other competing teams, posting a 5-0 mark.
