LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The Iowa State tennis team (14-2, 1-0 Big 12) defeated the New Mexico State, 4-2, in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday. The victory extended the win streak for the Cyclones to 11 matches.
After dropping the doubles point to the Aggies, Iowa State came out strong in singles. The Cyclones were able to win four singles matches to earn the win.
ISU secured the win by way of victories from Margarita Timakova, Annabella Bonadonna, and Karen Alvarez. Timakova earned a hard fought, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 win against Eli Arnaudova at No. 4 singles. Bonadonna played at No. 5 singles and beat Lindsay Harlas, 6-2, 6-4, to help preserve the ISU win streak.
Erin Freeman also picked up a win for the Cyclones in dominant fashion in the number three slot by sweeping her opponent, Elizabeth Geronimo, 6-0, 6-0.
Iowa State will put that streak to the test once again against UTEP Saturday in El Paso at noon.
