AMES, Iowa – The first chance to see the Iowa State volleyball team in action comes tomorrow when the Cyclones host Drake in an exhibition match at Hilton Coliseum. The teams will do combined drills from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m., with a three-set scrimmage being played at 11:30 a.m. Admission will be free.
Doors will open an hour in advance like usual. For this match, and next Saturday's Cardinal & Gold Scrimmage, seating will be all general admission before the reserved season tickets go into effect at the start of the regular season. Due to staff shortages, there will only be limited concession stands and products open for the match.
There will be no live video of the match. Live stats will be provided, here. Fans can also follow updates of the match via the Iowa State Volleyball Twitter account @CycloneVB.
The NCAA enacted a new rule starting with the 2017 volleyball season, allowing teams to play Division I opponents in an exhibition match that would not count towards a season record or RPI. The Cyclones will take on in-state foe Drake, under head coach Darrin McBroom.
The Bulldogs finished 2016 with a 17-15 record, the first time they finished above .500 since 2010. Drake is led by senior outside hitter Kyla Inderski, with the Urbandale native finishing 2016 with 400 kills and 385 digs.
