AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State soccer program had 11 student-athlete recognized by the Big 12 Conference for their achievements in the classroom, the league announced today. The Cyclones had 10 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, and one on the second team.
The recipients include Riley Behan, Hannah Cade, Brianna Curtis, Marin Daniel, Kassi Ginther, Klasey Medelberg, Merin Mundt, Kasey Opfer, Dayja Schwichtenberg and Emily Steil on the first team, while sophomore McKenna Schultz is a second team honoree. Additionally, Steil is one of 19 conference student-athletes to be honored with a 4.00 grade point average.
Medelberg, Opfer, Steil and Behan are all three-time Academic All-Big 12 honorees, while Cade, Curtis and Mundt are all recipients for the second time in their career.
In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must earn a GPA of at least 3.20 to make the first team or 3.00 to make the second team. Freshmen and transfer students are not eligible for the award in their first year of academic residence.
Iowa State will conclude the 2018 regular season on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex, taking on Kansas State on senior night.
