Cyclones Defeat Kansas In Lawrence, 27-3

LAWRENCE, Kansas – Iowa State extended its win streak to four-straight after a 27-3 win over the Kansas Jayhawks on Saturday at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The Cyclone offense was on fire early against the Jayhawks, amassing 280 total yards in the first half. The defense stood tall allowing just three points, while forcing four KU turnovers on downs. With the win, Iowa State improves to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 play. Kansas drops to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

The first quarter was the Hakeem Butler show. Butler recorded back-to-back touchdowns for the Cyclones in the first quarter on deep passes from freshman quarterback Brock Purdy. The first was an 83-yard touchdown and the second was a 51-yard strike on ISU's ensuing drive to give the Cyclones a 14-0 lead with 6:59 to go in the first quarter. The two touchdowns would put Butler over 100 yards for the third-straight game and his fourth game in a row with a touchdown catch.

Connor Assalley capped an 11 play, 39-yard drive with a career-long 47-yard field goal to give ISU a 17-0 lead.

The Iowa State defense continued their turnover streak after Brian Peavy recorded his fifth forced fumble of his career and Jamahl Johnson came up with the recovery, giving ISU possession on their own 35. Assalley would finish off the drive with a 23-yard field goal to give ISU a 20-0 lead. KU would get on the board as the half came to a close after a 47-yard field goal to make it 20-3.

The Cyclones picked up right where they left off in the third quarter as Purdy found Matt Eaton for a 3-yard touchdown to give ISU a 3-yard touchdown and a 27-3 lead.

Players of Note…
Purdy finished with 263 yards through the air and completed 16-of-23 attempts while tossing for three touchdowns for the fourth-straight game.

Hakeem Butler was incredible for the Cyclones, catching five passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns.

Greg Eisworth led the Cyclones with eight tackles.
