Student-Athletes Of The Month Announced

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State Office of Student-Athlete Development announced that four Cyclone student-athletes have been honored for their hard work and dedication in the classroom during January. Iowa State's Student-Athletes of the Month are Jackie Chairez (Softball), Conner Greene (Football), Cailie Logue (Track & Cross Country) and Lawrence White (Football).
Jackie Chairez – Junior (Softball)
Hometown:Â Highland, Calif.
Major:Â Liberal Studies
Chairez and the Iowa State softball team are just beginning the 2018 season, with the native of Highland, Calif., drawing the second start of her career vs. Coastal Carolina. As a sophomore in 2017, Chairez finished the season with .235 batting average, four RBIs and a double.
Conner Greene – Redshirt Sophomore (Defensive End)
Hometown:Â North Liberty, Iowa
Major:Â Political Science
Conner Greene was a reserve defensive end for the Cyclone football squad that went 8-5 this season, closing the season with a victory in the 2017 Liberty Bowl vs. Memphis. The native of North Liberty, Iowa, earns this academic honor for his work in the classroom as a political science major.
Cailie Logue – Freshman (Distance)
Hometown:Â Erie, Kan.
Major:Â Kinesiology and Health
Logue has had an outstanding freshman campaign for the Cyclones. The standout distance runner was Iowa State's top performer for much of the 2017 cross country season. Logue was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and finished 79th at the NCAA Championship. She was also an All-Big 12 performer, pacing Iowa State to a Big 12 team title with a fourth-place showing individually.
Lawrence White – Redshirt Freshman (Defensive Back)
Hometown:Â Bakersfield, Calif.
Major:Â Criminal Justice Studies
Lawrence White had a breakout redshirt freshman campaign, playing in all 13 games, while making the first start of his collegiate career in the 2017 Liberty Bowl vs. Memphis. The native of Bakersfield, Calif., recorded 16 tackles on the season, including a career-high six tackles in the 21-20 win over Memphis.
The Iowa State OSAD's Student-Athlete of the Month program was implemented by Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services, Patrice Ayeni. Student-athlete development staff members who oversee each sport submit nominations, and the staff votes on the monthly winner.
