Jacksonville, Fla. – The Iowa State tennis team (7-4, 0-0 Big 12) fell 5-1 to North Florida at the University Tennis Complex in Jacksonville, Florida on Friday.
In doubles action, the No. 3 pairing Ekaterina Repina and Margarita Timakova edged Valentina Mariotto and Florencia Rossi, 6-1. But that would be the only Cyclone win in doubles action as the duo of Maty Cancini and Regina Espindola fell 7-6 (7-3) against Luise Intert and Rafaelea Gomez at the No. 1 position and Annabella Bonadonna and Erin Freeman, who played at the No. 2 spot in doubles, fell 6-1 to Lucia Montaño and Eva Nyikos.
Bonadonna grabbed a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Rossi at the No. 6 singles position. Cancini, who played as the No. 1 singles player for ISU, dropped her match to Gomez in a long stretch, ending at 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Espindola's singles match also went into three sets, but she fell 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 against Nyikos at the No. 2 position. Playing at No. 3 singles was Erin Freeman, who fell 6-1, 6-1 to Montaño. Repina lost her match to Intert, 6-4, 6-1, while Timakova's match against Mariotto went unfinished at the No. 5 position, going 5-7, 6-3, 5-2, unfinished.
The Cyclones will be back in action tomorrow at 9 a.m. as they meet with the Mercer Bears.
