AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State Athletics Department announced today that a new event called "Cyclones Unplugged" will debut this summer, as a season kick-off event in downtown Des Moines.
Cyclones Unplugged, brought to you by MidAmerican Energy and Doll Distributing, will be held at Cowles Commons on Thursday, August 23 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Cyclone fans will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with several head coaches - including head Football Coach Matt Campbell, head Men's Basketball Coach Steve Prohm and head Women's Basketball Coach Bill Fennelly, assistant coaches and Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard. The "Voice of the Cyclones" John Walters, CY and members of the spirit squad will also be on hand throughout the evening.
The evening will feature food and beverage for purchase, a short speaking program and live classic rock music from Des Moines' own Standing Hampton. A beer garden and food trucks will be on-site including The Outside Scoop, The Big Red Food Truck, Roadside Tacos and Top Bun Food Truck. Admission is free and open to all Iowa State alumni, supporters and fans.
"We are excited to create a new social event in the Des Moines area that is free and open to all of Cyclone Nation while continuing to celebrate all our sports programs", said Iowa State Assistant Athletics Director for Special Events Lindsey Long. "This is really an extension of our ever popular statewide Tailgate Tour," Long added.
Cyclones Unplugged will be held in place of the traditional "Meet the Coaches Night" that the athletics department hosted for several years.
