LUBBOCK, Texas – Iowa State (2-8-2) fell 3-0 to No. 22 Texas Tech (9-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at John Walker Soccer Stadium to close out their weekend road swing through Texas. The Cyclones were coming off a 110-minute battle at TCU on Friday, ending in a 2-2 tie with Iowa State earning its first Big 12 point of the season.
Following a slow start offensively, the Cyclones placed three shots on target in the second stanza, but were unable to break through with a goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Dayja Schwichtenberg tied a career high with eight saves on the day, matching her total on Friday at TCU.
Turning Point of the Game
Texas Tech's first goal came off the foot of Jayne Lydiatt, a junior midfielder, in the 22nd minute. With the Red Raiders pushing forward offensively in the early going, Lydiatt's goal solidified the home team's momentum. A ball played into the box pinged around, and Lydiatt was able to collected the carom in the middle of the 18-yard box and put it in the back of the net for an unassisted goal, her first of the season.
The TTU lead grew to 2-0 on another unassisted goal in the 66th minute. Ally Griffin placed a strike in the right corner of the net on a shot from beyond the box that found its mark. Charlotte Teeter's goal in the 86th minute came off a Savanna Jones corner, extending the Red Raider advantage to 3-0.
Coach Speak
"Coming off a real emotional game on Friday, we put a lot into that game, and we just started a little sluggish," Minatta said. "I thought we came back and fought hard in the second half and were able to get some things going, but we just didn't have enough in the tank to match the energy level that we needed to for a conference game. Moving forward, walking away from this weekend with a point is huge for us."
