Iowa State to Host First Duals of 2019

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State tennis team hosts its first two duals of the 2018-19 season against Augustana and South Dakota Saturday at the Life Time Fitness in Urbandale. The Cyclones square off with the Vikings at 10 a.m. and the Coyotes at 4 p.m.

FOCUS ON DOUBLES
Iowa State is rebranding its doubles style under first-year head coach Boomer Saia.
"We preach a very aggressive doubles style," Saia said. "We've worked a lot on doubles and I feel like we have some really good pieces that are interchangeable."
The more aggressive style has paid off so far this season as the Cyclones downed both Wisconsin and Florida International 2-1 at the Florida International Invite.
Maty Cancini and Annabella Bonadonna have been the most dynamic duo for the Cyclones. The pair have won five-straight matches together and are 12-3 this season.
CYCLONE TENNIS QUICK HITS
-Bonadonna needs one doubles victory Saturday to break the school record for career doubles wins.
-Senior Annabella Bonadonna sits 12 wins shy of first place on the school's overall career wins list with 146 career victories.
-The duo of Maty Cancini and Annabella Bonadonna have won five straight doubles matches and have a team best 12-3 doubles record this season.
-Maty Cancini ranks No. 74 in the national ITA rankings, the highest ranking ever by a Cyclone.
PLAYER TO WATCH
Regina Espindola currently sits sixth on Iowa State's overall career wins list with 119 total victories for the Cyclones.
Espindola also sits just one win shy of the top-10 on the school's career singles win list with 57 victories.The Tabasco, Mexico native has had at least 20 overall wins in each of her four years as a Cyclone.
