AMES, Iowa – Oklahoma State's Malcolm Rodriguez intercepted a pass and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown and the Cowboys held off No. 23 Iowa State for a 34-27 win Saturday afternoon at MidAmerican Energy Field at Jack Trice Stadium.
The Cyclones drop to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in Big 12 action, while Oklahoma State improves to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in league play.
The Cyclones got the ball back with the score tied at 27-27 and 7:32 remaining in the game. On third down, ISU quarterback Brock Purdy had his pass intercepted by Rodriguez and returned for the score.
The story of the first half was big plays. The Cowboys took a 21-13 lead into the break behind three touchdowns of 50-plus yards. Iowa State stayed in the game with a Kolar touchdown and a pair of field goals from Connor Assalley.
The Cyclones had erased the halftime deficit with stout defense and a pair of Breece Hall touchdowns. Hall scored on runs of nine and four yards in the second half, but the Cowboy defense ultimately forced three turnovers down the stretch to seal the game.

Hall finished the game with 118 yards, 76 on the ground and 42 receiving yards.
Purdy set a school record with 39 completions on 62 attempts, both career highs, for 382 yards.
Charlie Kolar had career highs of eight receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown, his fifth this season. Deshaunte Jones also had eight catches for 91 yards.
Linebacker Mike Rose finished with seven tackles and his first career interception, while Anthony Johnson had a team-high nine tackles.
