AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head soccer coach Tony Minatta has announced that he is resigning from his position effective the end of the season.
Iowa State Senior Associate Athletics Director Dr. Calli Sanders accepted his resignation Monday afternoon.
The Cyclones are 3-14 overall and will host Kansas Thursday at 7 p.m. to end its regular season. Minatta will coach that game.
"We appreciate Tony's committed service and dedication the past eight seasons, and we wish him well as he pursues other opportunities," Sanders said. "We will begin a national search for a replacement immediately."
Minatta was the Cyclones' head coach the last six seasons, compiling a 33-71-6 (.327) overall record. His Big 12 mark was 7-40-4 (.176). He was an assistant at Iowa State for two years before taking the reins of the program in December, 2013.
Minatta's best season on the sidelines was in 2016 when the Cyclones were 10-8-1, including a pair of Top-25 road wins. ISU was No. 48 in the final RPI rankings that year, the highest mark in school history.
