AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State soccer program had 14 student-athletes recognized by the Big 12 Conference for their achievements in the classroom, the league announced today. The Cyclones had 11 student-athletes named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, and three on the second team.
First team recipients were Kenady Adams, Taylor Bee, Hannah Cade, Marin Daniel, Megan Etrheim, Kassi Ginther, Carly Langhurst, Brooke Miller, Merin Mundt, Dayja Schwichtenberg and Brinlee Whitaker. The junior trio of Tavin Hays, Courtney Powell and McKenna Schultz were second team honorees.
Seniors Cade and Mundt both became three-time Academic All-Big 12 honorees, while Daniel, Ginther, Schwichtenberg and Schultz all earned recognition from the conference for the second time in their careers.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
Iowa State will conclude the 2019 regular season on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex against Kansas on senior night.
