AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women's golf team made history over the weekend with an epic performance at the MountainView Collegiate.
Down five shots heading into the final round, the Cyclones staged a comeback for the ages. With five players recording under-par rounds for the first time in school history, ISU captured its first stroke play tournament title since 2012 behind a school-record 268 in the final round.
The Cyclones won the tournament by 14 shots and eclipsed their previous 18-hole team mark by eight shots. ISU also shattered its school record for 54-hole aggregate team score (836) by a whopping 13 strokes.
To say ISU's final-round performance was a team effort would be an enormous understatement. All five players were in the red led by Joy Chou's school-record 64. Chou broke the former school mark (Chonlada Chayanun) by one shot and Alanna Campbell was right behind her with a 66 in a round where she tallied a school-record nine birdies.
Rounding out ISU's record-setting final day were impressive scores from Amelia Grohn (68), Chayanit Wangmahaporn (70) and Taglao Jeeravivitaporn (71).
The victory helped the Cyclones jump to No. 35 nationally in the latest Golfweek rankings.
John Walters got the chance to recap the Cyclones' incredible performance in this Cyclones.tv feature.
