AMES, Iowa - Iowa State will look to continue its seven-match winning streak with the start of Big 12 play at No. 6 Texas Wednesday night at 7 p.m. from Gregory Gymnasium in Austin.

Iowa State posted another 3-0 at the Cy-Hawk Series Tournament in Iowa City. ISU opened the tournament with a sweep of Lipscomb on Thursday, and followed that with a five-set win over Coastal Carolina to hand the Chanticleers their first loss of 2019. In the final match of the tournament, Iowa State got ahead of Iowa 2-0 before the Hawkeyes forced a fifth set, which Iowa State prevailed in 15-10.
Iowa State was led across the weekend by Tournament MVP Eleanor Holthaus, who had 3.69 kills per set at .321 hitting for the weekend. Holthaus recorded a career-best 21 kills vs. CCU and 19 against Iowa. Joining Holthaus on the All-Tournament Team was Avery Rhodes, who had a career-high 13 kills at .440 hitting against Iowa and eight blocks vs. Lipscomb.
No. 6 Texas comes into the Big 12 opener with a 6-2 overall record. However, UT comes into this match-up off a 1-1 weekend, losing at Rice 3-2 last Wednesday before returning to Austin on Friday to sweep Texas A&M.
UT features two big hitters on the pints in the form of Logan Eggleston (4.19 kills per set, .332 hitting) and reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Micaya White (4.13 kills per set, .294 hitting). Freshman Skylar Fields has impressed early in her UT career, averaging 2.58 kills per frame at .322 hitting. The Texas offense, which hit .327 as a team, ir run by sophomore Jhenna Gabriel, who is averaging 10.87 assists per set. UT libero Sydney Petersen, a sophomore, is an Iowan and Dike-New Hartford graduate.
This will be the 49th all-time meeting between the two sides, with UT leading the series 43-5. All five of Iowa State's wins have come under head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch. ISU's five wins over the Longhorns during the Johnson-Lynch Era is the most by a current Big 12 member in that stretch of time. Texas has won the last four meetings and has never lost to ISU in Austin.
