Out at Indiana, the No. 20 Iowa State men look to continue putting up top times, with this weekend's focus being the distance medley relay on Friday evening. The Cyclones, who finished fifth in the DMR at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships are sending Cebastian Gentil, Edwin Kurgat, Festus Lagat, Leonel Perez, Roshon Roomes, Konner Roth and Joe Schaefer to Bloomington, with a quartet of them forming the relay. On Saturday, everyone except Kurgat will compete in individual events. Lagat and Roomes will be back in the 800-meter run one week after setting the top two times in the NCAA this season in the event.
Distance will be the focus of the competitors in Seattle at the UW Invitational. The Cyclone men have some of their top distance reps competing, with Chad Johnson, John Nownes and David Too in the 3,000 meters and Mitchell Day and Thomas Pollard in the 5K. As for the ISU women, Abby Caldwell and Cailie Logue highlight the entries in the 3K, while Winrose Chesang makes her 5K debut for the Cyclones, a distance she earned four All-America honors at while at Iowa Central.
Finally at Texas Tech, the focus will be on sprits and hurdles and jumps and throws. One of the nation's premier fields will be assembling in Lubbock, with 12 nationally ranked teams being among the field, including men's No. 1 Florida State and women's No. 1 USC. The notable performer for the ISU men will be Daniel Nixon in the men's 800. A week after running the nation's No. 5 time at 800, he will look to improve it again this weekend. On the women's side, Katarina Vlahovic has recorded a PR in the 60-meter hurdles three-straight meets and will look to continue her improvement at TTU.
