AMES, Iowa - Addy De Jesus is the lone transfer signee to join Iowa State for the 2021 season. She is coming to Iowa State from the University of Nebraska and is excited to join the Cyclones this season.
De Jesus comes to Ames with a lot of collegiate experience. She comes to the program having earned All-Big Ten Second Team and First Team honors in consecutive seasons. She also finished 26th nationally in all-around and 18th nationally in vault in 2020.
While touring collegiate gymnastics programs, De Jesus felt a strong connection with both the Iowa State coaches and gymnasts.Â
"It was really important for me to connect with the coaches and to trust them," De Jesus commented. "They showed me that they really want what is best for me."
Even throughout the pandemic, De Jesus' favorite part of being a Cyclone has been working with her teammates. Although they have had to bond while six feet apart, they have found ways to build strong relationships.
"It's been hard," De Jesus noted. "When I first got to Ames, I reached out to some of the girls to train together and we try to hang out outside of the gym, too. I think we've done a great job of building friendships."
Despite the long journey to the beginning of the season, De Jesus is excited to be back on the floor. "I'm really looking forward just to competing," De Jesus said. "The first meet will definitely be emotional because it will really hit home that I am a Cyclone."
De Jesus and the No. 18 Cyclones begin the gymnastics season on Friday, Jan. 15 against No. 8 Denver at Hilton Coliseum.
