Cyclones Wrap Up Action At ITA Tour Event

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Ting-Pei Chang advanced to the semifinals and finished the weekend with a 3-1 record as Iowa State opened fall competition at the 2020 ITA Tour: Fall Circuit by UTR.
Chang went 3-1 last weekend, defeating a Nebraska opponent as well as picking up two wins against Kansas. The freshman from Taipei City, Taiwan defeated Nebraska's Chloe Kuckelman in three sets in the round of 32.
Chang then followed with another three-set win in the round of 16, disposing of Kansas' Sofia Smagina, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (8). Smagina, an All-Big 12 performer, was the top seed in the tournament. Another Jayhawk awaited in the quarterfinals as Chang downed Carmen Roxana Manu, 7-5, 6-4. Her run came to an end in the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Xinyu Cai from Wisconsin.
Cai also eliminated Cyclones' Christin Hsieh in the round of 16 and Maty Cancini in the quarterfinals.
Cancini, who picked up career wins No. 134 and 135, defeated Nebraska's Ellie Kuckelman, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6), in her opening match. The senior then followed with another three-set win, beating Kansas' Vasiliki Karvouni, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (8), before falling to Cai.
The Cyclones return to action Oct. 2-4 at the K-State Fall Invite.
