AMES, Iowa – Iowa State women's basketball senior standout Ashley Joens was named to a trio of National Player of the Year Watch Lists Tuesday. Joens was named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy, the Wade Trophy and the Wooden Award Preseason top 50 Watch List.
Joens returns for her senior campaign after a historic season where she set a new school record for scoring average netting 24.2 points per contest. Joens averaged team highs in points (24.2) and rebounds (9.5), helping Iowa State to a 17-11 record on the year and a 12-6 record in Big 12 action. Joens' impressive performances on the court did not go unnoticed last season as she earned Second-Team All-America honors by Sports Illustrated and was named the Cheryl Miller Award Winner, which honors the nation's best small forward.
This season, Joens was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List and was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Joens started the season off with a 15-point, eight-rebound performance against Omaha.
