Cyclones Beat Shockers On The Road, 7-0

WICHITA, Kansas - Iowa State's Thasaporn Naklo and Miska Kadleckova upset Wichita State's 23rd-ranked doubles pairing of Sarvinoz Saidhujaeva and Marta Bellucco as the Cyclones beat the Shockers, 7-0, Friday afternoon to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Wichita State falls to 2-1 after suffering its first loss.
The Cyclones have dominated the doubles courts to start the spring and that trend continued on Friday. Maty Cancini and Ting-Pei Chang took down the previously undefeated pairing of Natsumi Kurahashi and Alexandra Lazarova in the third doubles slot. With one more victory necessary to secure the point, Naklo and Kadleckova pulled off a thrilling 6-4 upset of No. 23 Saidhujaeva and Bellucco in the top doubles slot.Â
In singles, Kadleckova cruised 6-0, 6-1 over Jie Xin Zheng at No. 4 to remain unbeaten on the singles court. Senior Maty Cancini followed with a quick 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, while Christin Hsieh clinched the match for the Cyclones with her 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ting-Ya Hsu at No. 3. Naklo won 6-2, 7-5 in a battle with Saidhujaeva at the top singles slot then Chie Kezuka and Sofia Cabezas finished off the sweep for the Cyclones as all three players picked up wins to each improve to 5-0 in singles this season.
It was the third 7-0 sweep of the season by the Cyclones.
Iowa State returns to Wichita Country Club tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. to face off against Louisville.
