AMES, Iowa – Former Iowa State All-American golfer Tripp Kinney turned professional following his incredible Cyclone career ended in May.
The Waukee, Iowa, native will now get his first chance to compete in a PGA Tour event, as the four-time NCAA Regional qualifier received a sponsor's exemption to compete at the John Deere Classic, July 8-11 in Silvas, Ill.
The opportunity to compete against the best players in the world is something he will cherish early in his professional career.
"I am so excited," Kinney said. "This is a dream come true for me to play in a PGA Tour event. The John Deere Classic is a wonderful tournament and I am honored to have the chance to play against the best in the world."
Kinney is one of the most accomplished golfers in Cyclone history. The three-time NCAA Championship qualifier ended his career with 29 sub-70 rounds and 12 top-10 finishes, tying for ninth in school history.
A two-time All-Region pick and Honorable Mention All-American selection in 2019, Kinney won the 2019 Louisville Regional to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual. He wrapped up his incredible career in the spring with the fifth-best career stroke average in school history (72.65).
