AMES, Iowa – Iowa State soccer head coach Matt Fannon announced the 2021 schedule on Wednesday, July 21. The Cyclones will host nine matches at the Cyclone Soccer Complex, beginning with the home opener against Drake on Aug. 29.
The Cyclones will face six teams that advanced to the 2020 NCAA Tournament, including three teams that won at least one match during the tournament. Of the 17 opponents on the schedule, 10 finished with a winning record last season, while another did not compete during the past year due to Covid-19.
Iowa State will play an exhibition match at Omaha on August 7 before opening the regular season with a pair of matches in California Aug. 19 and 22. The Cyclones will face UC-Santa Barbara in the season opener on Aug. 19 before facing CSUN on Aug. 22. UC-Santa Barbara did not play last season.
The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match with Iowa is scheduled for Aug. 26 in Iowa City. The home opener with Drake on Aug. 29 is the first of four-straight home matches for the Cyclones. Iowa State will host SIU-Edwardsville (Sept. 5.), Memphis (Sept. 9) and Creighton (Sept. 16) during the homestand. The non-conference finale is set for Sept. 19 at South Dakota.
Iowa State opens Big 12 play against a pair of teams that finished last season in the top 15 in the country and made the NCAA Tournament. The Cyclones travel to West Virginia for the Big 12 opener on Sept. 24 before hosting Oklahoma State Sept. 30 in the first home conference match of the year.
Three of the first four matches in October will be at the Cyclone Soccer Complex, starting with Kansas on Oct. 3. Iowa State travels to Texas on Oct. 8 before hosting Texas Tech on Oct. 14. The Cyclones will host TCU to close out the weekend on Oct. 17. The Horned Frogs finished last season ranked fifth in the nation and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Iowa State travels to Baylor Oct. 21 before hosting Oklahoma Oct. 24 in the home finale. The regular season finale is set for Oct. 28 at Kansas State.
The Big 12 Championship is scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 7 in Round Rock, Texas.
