AMES, Iowa – One of the most decorated women's distance runners in the NCAA will be joining the Cyclones in 2021-22, as Iowa State announced the addition of two-time All-American Ashley Tutt from Northern Illinois. A native of Channahon, Illinois, Tutt has one season of cross country eligibility and two years of indoor and outdoor track and field eligibility remaining.
"Ashley is an incredible fit for the Iowa State Program," Iowa State Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jeremy Sudbury said. "Her national experience and Midwest upbringing makes her a complete game-changer. I look forward to seeing her continue to build on her successes under the direction of (Associate Head Women's Cross Country/Assistant Track and Field) Coach Amy Rudolph."
Tutt had an outstanding 2020-21 season across the three disciplines. During the indoor season, Tutt helped lead the NIU women to the program's first team conference title at the Mid-American Indoor Championships, becoming the second woman in MAC history to win the indoor mile, 3,000m and 5,000m crowns at a single meet. Her 3K time (both a personal best and school record) of 9:23.64 was a conference championships record. Tutt qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 5,000-meter run, earning Second Team All-America honors with her 13th place finish and three days later ran at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Tutt earned her spot at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Ames, Iowa, running an NIU-school record 16:01.26 in the 5,000m at the Iowa State Classic.
An owner of eight MAC titles across track and field and cross country, Tutt clocked a personal best and school record 33:24.96 in the 10,000-meter run during the 2021 outdoor season and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event, where she earned Honorable Mention All-America honors with a 22nd-place finish at the Championships. She also swept the MAC 5,000m and 10,000m titles at the Outdoor Championships.
Tutt graduated from NIU with her Bachelor's Degree in history, maintaining a 3.85 grade point average. Last week, she was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for Track and Field/Cross Country, making her eligible for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team to be announced in August.
