IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa State women's cross country team opened the 2021 season with a first-place finish at the Hawkeye Invitational on Friday evening. The Cyclones raced to the team title with 33 points, placing four runners in the top 10 individually.
Junior Janette Schraft led the Iowa State contingent, finishing second out of 121 runners at Ashton Cross Country Course with a time of 13:51.1. Teammates Dana Feyen (third place – 14:04.7) and Madelynn Hill (fourth place – 14:04.7) were shortly behind, as three Cyclones finished in the top four.
True freshman Taylor Briggs also notched a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut, clocking a 14:20.1 to finish in ninth place. She was followed by Riley Beach, who rounded out the Cyclone scorers with a 15th-place finish in 14:30.4.
Grace Dickel (17th – 14:33.3), Brenna Cohoon (18th – 14:34.9), Sarah Murrow (35th – 14:55.1) and Bella Heikes (46th – 15:06.3) rounded out the Cyclones lineup.
Next Up
Iowa State will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Roy Griak Invite in Minneapolis, Minn. The Cyclone men and women will both take the course at the 35th Annual Roy Griak Invite
